Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif announced that one lac cabs would be distributed among the unemployed youth under the Orange Cab Scheme this year.

He headed a meeting to launch Orange Cab Scheme and go through the suggestions regarding the use of digital system for the payments.

While approving the digital system for payments, CM of Punjab said that it would regulate smooth flow of transactions, facilitate the community and promote a clear and also corruption-free culture.

“This system will exterminate attempts of fraud as well as counterfeit,” he added while claiming that farmers will also benefit from the digital payments.

The digital system for payments will comprise of E-Cards to provide the numerous services to the consumers.

Moreover, the CM praised the upcoming Orange Cab Scheme started by the Government of the Punjab. He added, “It would increase the employment opportunities across the province. One million young people will benefit from the scheme which will start from this year.”

The Punjab government tweeted in this regard, according to which the government gave 50,000 cars to unemployed youth under Apna Rozgar Scheme.

The most popular schemes include Laptop Scheme, Yellow Cab Scheme, Self Employment Scheme and many others.

Though, opponents point out the misplaced priorities, absence of productivity and cash recovery in these projects.

The Government of Punjab is set to launch an “Orange Cab” scheme seeking to provide 100,000 cars to unemployed youth in the province.

“The Orange Cab scheme will be launched this year,” the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was quoted as saying by the provincial government in a tweet.

Sharif expressed his desire to see the framework of the scheme developed electronically in order to restrict any possibility of mismanagement or corruption.

‘”The scheme will provide 100,000 people with a source of income,” he said, adding, “Previously, as part of the ‘Apna Rozgar’ scheme, the Punjab government has disbursed 50,000 cars to Punjab’s young people.”

CM Shahbaz Sharif stressed the importance of mobility as essential in helping young people secure a respectable source of income.

The Punjab government is known for its focus on expanding road infrastructure across Punjab’s major cities.

With the Orange Cab scheme in the pipeline, the province may see a surge in the number of cars on its streets.

CM wants to see safe cities

A body functioning under the Cabinet Committee for Law and Order will review the progress of six ongoing safe city projects. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the formation of the said committee on Friday.

The decision was taken during a progress review meeting of six safe city projects. The three-hour long moot was presided over by the CM who ordered police and agencies to ensure comprehensive measures for the safety of the public.

He instructed the cops to ensure criminal elements are eradicated from society.  Shehbaz added the Punjab Government had allocated a lot of funds to upgrade the police and its allied agencies.

Referring to the Punjab Safe Cities Projects, he said information technology would be used to make these areas more secure.

He said work was continuing at full throttle on the Lahore Safe City Project. Shehbaz revealed that the initiative for the provincial capital should be completed by June 2017 and hoped for no further delays. He urged that the remaining cities should also be completed within the stipulated time period.

Six safe cities projects were launched along the patterns of the initiative in Lahore. Those selected were Multan, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

According to a survey conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the total unemployment rate in Pakistan stood at 5.9 per cent, in 2014-15.
