The Ministry of Religious Affairs would conduct the ballot for Hajj applications under the government scheme on Tuesday, as relayed by the official spokesperson.

It was also mentioned that the draw had been delayed by a day upon the request from banks. He further added that Minister for Religious Affairs, Noor ul Haq Qadri, would ballot from Hajj applications of as many as 216, 542 intending pilgrims this year.

The government has directed all banks to complete online entries at the earliest and ensure the accuracy of updated records of pilgrims unsuccessful for the last three years, the official maintained.

The authorities have also directed banks to clear cheques and drafts of Hajj pilgrims.

On February 25, the government had opened the submission of Hajj applications for this year. Later, an extension in the deadline was announced till March 9, which concluded on Saturday. As many as 200,000 people would perform Hajj from Pakistan this year; 60 per cent have applied under the government scheme, while the remaining would make the journey under private tour operators.

On February 21, Federal Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, had announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had increased Pakistan’s Hajj quota to 200,000, while also agreeing to Pakistan’s suggestion to offer e-visa service to its pilgrims.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has received a record-breaking number of 374,829 Hajj applications for the Government Hajj scheme 2019.

Out of the total 120,000 applications will be selected through balloting on January 26. A senior official from the ministry said the highest number of applications totaling 81,985 came from Karachi, followed by Lahore with 72,483. Third highest was Islamabad with 67,896 applications. Other cities to note with a large number of applications are Peshawar, Multan, Quetta, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sukkur, and Rahimyar Khan.

At least 87,813 desiring pilgrims were selected through a computerized balloting on Thursday under the government’s Hajj scheme 2019, reported a local media outlet.

Despite numerous petitions regarding the Hajj quota pending before the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the federal cabinet at its meeting had allowed the Ministry for Religious Affairs to immediately carry out Hajj balloting for 50 per cent of the total quota of the pilgrims.

This year 374,829 people have applied for Hajj on government quota against the provisional quota for 179,210 Pakistani pilgrims allocated by the Saudi authorities.

The successful aspirants would be intimated through Short Message Service (SMS) on their mobile phones while intimation letters would also be sent to the selected pilgrims. Soon after the new Hajj policy was approved by the Cabinet and announced by the federal minister for religious affairs in December 2017, the ministry started receiving applications at designated bank branches from January 15 till January 24 across the country.

Under the new Hajj policy the cost for the pilgrimage will be the same as last year. Pilgrims from Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will be Rs280, 000 and from Sindh and Balochistan Rs270,000.Hajj Draw Result 2018 Online 26 January 2018
