CM Shahbaz Sharif Approved 150,000 more laptops to be distributed in Punjab in recent news. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review progress of matters of procurement of laptop for talented girl and boy students of the province. Giving approval to purchase 1.5 lakh laptops immediately during current financial year, the CM said process of procurement of laptops should be completed at the earliest and laptops of latest model should be purchased for the students. He said the programme of distribution of laptops on merit is an important step towards empowering the youth.

He said the Punjab government has already distributed lakhs of laptops at a cost of billions of rupees among talented students while 1.5 lakh more laptops of billions of rupees will be distributed on merit during current financial year. According to a handout, Shahbaz Sharif directed that no delay should be tolerated in the matters of purchase of laptops and all the matters should be completed immediately in a transparent manner. Youths are being harmonised with latest demands of present age with the distribution of laptops and becoming aware of new inventions and changing situation throughout the world through laptops, he added.

The CM said that provision of resources for empowering the youth is a useful investment and the Punjab government will provide all out resources for the programmes of awareness of youth about modern knowledge. He said benefitting from information technology is need of the hour that is why effective steps have been taken for the promotion of information technology in the province. Empowering youth through equipping them with modern knowledge is our mission, he added.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the programme of distribution of laptops among youth on merit is yielding positive results. He said that education is the only way through which trends of extremism can be eliminated from the society. Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for the promotion of quality education and modern knowledge, he added.

He said that IT labs have been set up a cost of billions of rupees in the schools of the province. He said that more than 1.5 lakh talented girls and boys of resource less families are studying in prestigious educational institutions through Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. He said that the steps taken by Punjab government for the promotion of education are becoming a source of reducing the gulf between the poor and the rich.

Free laptop Scheme Eligibility Criteria:

  • All those candidates who are in the first year or first semester of the 4 years bachelor programs including BS, BSC, Medical, Dental, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary & Animal Sciences and Technology colleges and must hold at least 60% marks in the annual examination or 70% marks in the semester system.
  • All those  candidates who are in the first year or in the first semester doing 2 years master degree program and must have secured 60% marks in the annual examination or 70% marks in case of the Semester System.
    Left over candidates who are not able to get the laptop in the last Free laptop distribution Scheme but their name is entered in the eligible candidates list.
  • 100 top students from the Matric Level annual examination from all the ten educational board that are 9 educational board of Punjab and 1 Federal Board.
  • Top 40 students who have topped Matric or intermediate level annual examination from other provinces than Punjab that are  Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
  • All those candidates who have recently taken admission in the MS / M.Phil and PhD programs but has secured 60% marks in the annual examination or 70% marks in the Semester System of the last attended degree from Public Sector Colleges or Universities.
  • Top 10 toppers of the Public sector Federal Universities in Islamabad and their all campuses that are spread in the Punjab.
    There will be 4000 free laptops for the students of the Deeni Madaris
